NEW DELHI—Triggering a new the controversy in the lower house of Indian Parliament, a Shiv Sena  Member of Parliament (MP), Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, remarked that the saffron flag should be hoisted atop the Red Fort. The remark has resulted in a huge controversy and is being protested greatly by its opposition.

Jadhav was speaking on the Motion of Thanks during the President’s address to Parliament. He could not stop himself  from sharing his inner feelings and declared they would unfurl the saffron flag over the Red Fort in Delhi.

Opposition members protested when Yadav made the objectionable remark. MPs belonging to Congress, Trinamool Congress, and Left parties appealed the Speaker to delete it from the records. Arjun Charan Sethi, who was in the Chair, assured them that he would examine the record and remove if there was anything objectionable. The assurance, however, failed to pacify the agitated members and lead to an adjournment of the House for a brief time.

A ruckus was witnessed after the controversial statement. Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge insisted it was not fair to make the remark because the saffron flag which is to be hoisted over the Red Fort represents Hindutav ideology . Members from Trinamool Congress, RJD, and Congress trooped in as the well shouting slogans, and demanding that the remark be deleted.

When the House reassembled after the brief adjournment, Shiv Sena leader and Union Minister Anant Geete promised, “We will always respect our Constitution and tricolour”. He said the Maharashtra party which is in power has never shown any disrespect to the Constitution and tricolour.”
